Appointment ten minutes before 09.30 at Napolincoming, in via dei Fiorentini 47-49 (50 meters from the Toledo stop of Metro Line 1). Departure with our guide at 09.30 for the CC stop: coffee and croissant, directly on via Toledo, for an entirely Neapolitan load of energy. Short foray into the fam ……… “Spanish Quarters” and continuation to Monumental Naples: Piazza San Ferdinando, Piazza Plebiscito, Palazzo Reale, Real Teatro di San Carlo, Castel Nuovo and the new archaeological excavations below (all external ).
Continue along the ancient via Medina, skirting the medieval and beautiful church of Santa Maria dell’Incoronata. Continuing south-east we will skirt the magnificent Orsini di Gravina palace, the splendid Sant’Anna dei Lombardi and we will enter the esoteric Piazza del Gesù, with the Gesu Nuovo church and its ashlar facade. The square is the antechamber to Spaccanpoli, the ancient lower decumanus, full of ancient and fascinating stories and places: Santa Chiara, the “Pompeian Garden”, and Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, with the obelisk and the church of the same name, adjacent Palazzo di Sangro del Principe di San Severo. Sweet stop with our sfogliatella (and this too is a long story). We will continue to the heart of ancient Neapolis, Piazza San Gaetano, a melting pot of unparalleled art sites, in particular San Lorenzo Maggiore, the only example of Provençal Gothic in the whole of Southern Italy; San Gregorio Armeno is one step away. A touch of modernity with the view of the Bansky murals. Weather permitting, we will skirt the magnificent “Palace of the Emperor of Constantinople”. Grand Finale with via Duomo, San Gennaro and a very good wallet pizza.
